- The facility of change of name is not permitted on the bookings made under Tatkal scheme.
- The Ministry of Railways has decided to reduce the tatkal charges with effect from October 1.The new tatkal charges will be at the rate of 10 per cent of basic fare for second class and 30 per cent of basic fare for all other classes subject to minimum and maximum charges for each class.Tatkal tickets will be issued for actual distance of travel, instead of end-to-end, subject to the distance restriction applicable to the train.Tatkal facility will be introduced in executive class of Shatabdi Express trains also, by earmarking 10 per cent of the accommodation available that is five seats per coach The existing refund rules of tatkal tickets will remain unchanged.

- The validity period of Southern Zone Timetable and Trains at a Glance, with effect from 1st July 2008 to 30th June 2009 is extended up to 31st Oct 2009 and the new table will come into force from 1st November 2009.
- The identification details are not required at the time of booking now.
- The ID card will be required during journey.
- One of the passenger booked on an e-ticket should have any of the five identity cards(Voter identity card/Passport/ Pan card/Driving license/Photo I/d card of Central/State Government issued to their employees) during train journey in original.
